In the period between January and October 2015, the volume of Ukrainian tomato exports to the EU market has reached 4 thousand tonnes, while a year earlier exports during the same period were negligible. About half of these shipments hit the Polish market.
At the same time, the biggest importer of tomatoes from Ukraine has been Belarus. Its share was as high as 75 percent of all Ukrainian exports of vegetables in general.
In global terms, we can see the negative impact of the Russian embargo on the entire sector and the export of Ukrainian tomatoes in 2015. Between January and October, total exports of tomatoes from Ukraine amounted to 20 thousand tonnes, which is only half of the volume recorded last year.
