In the campaign that ended in August, Spain imported a total of 156.46 million kilos of tomatoes, according to data processed by Hortoinfo and provided by the statistical service Estacom (Icex-Tax Agency) with TARIC (Integrated Tariff of the European Communities) codes.
The total value of the tomatoes purchased by Spain between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 amounted to 83.03 million Euro, with an average price of 0.53 Euro per kilo.
Spain's largest tomato supplier was Portugal, with 87.03 million kilos and 55.63 percent of the total; Portuguese tomato imports were worth 23.25 million Euro; an average price of 0.27 Euro per kilo.
Next in the ranking is the Kingdom of Morocco, with 25.06 million kilos (16.02%) worth 22.62 million Euro; an average price of 0.9 Euro per kilo.
The third largest supplier by volume was the Netherlands, which sold Spain a total of 23.74 million kilos (15.18%) worth 18.62 million Euro; an average price of 0.78 Euro per kilo.
The fourth most important tomato supplier was France, with 7.24 million kilos (4.63%) and 6.91 million Euro (0.95 €/kg), followed by Belgium, with 6.43 million kilos (4.11%) and 5.25 million Euro (0.82 €/kg).
