Citruses produced in Pudong and Chongming (Shanghai) are sold directly at seven large markets in Shanghai. Although this year there was a drop in crop yield, wholesale prices were higher compared to previous years. The direct selling price of 1.25 Yuan per kilo is about the same as last year's price. In just one day, 30,000 kilo (60,000 catties) of citrus were sold in Shanghai alone.

This year, the total citrus output of Changxing County was less than 30 million kilo (60 million catties), a steep decline compared with last year's output of 1.6 billion catties. Although a disappointing output, sales are good. Currently 2% of the new crop has been sold. A new variety that currently enters the market is the Miyagawa.

Shanghai has 7,000 hectares (105,000 mu) of citrus growing areas, mainly concentrated in Chongming and smaller production areas near Pudong, Jinshan, Fengxian and other regions in the Dazhi River coastal area. Chongming's citrus production is accounting for 83% of total citrus output. Main variety cultivated in Shanghai is the Wenzhou mandarin. Also some early varieties like the Qiaoben, Songshan and Mantou Hong are cultivated in the region. These varieties are available on the market from mid-October to early December.
