The orange producer Sunaran is looking for a new market niche, in this case the U.S. In order to ship its citrus fruits from the Guadalquivir Valley in the United States, the Agrarian Transformation Company of Palma del Río has already made its first contacts and carried out studies with the goal of meeting the requirements needed to ship the product. "In recent years, we have opened new markets where we have already established ourselves, such as Korea, China or Canada, but we want to start working with the United States," stated the company's head of administration, José María Corredera.

The firm, formed by more than one hundred partners, currently exports to China, although it is still working to strengthen its position in the Asian giant. Another of the company's strengths is Brazil, the main market for citrus in its area, where it supplies its flagship products. Corredera, who made this statement during the Pre-internationalisation conference for Andalusian SMEs, also acknowledged that "Europe is no longer a foreign market, as, at least for us, it is a domestic market." In his view, "when you get to Europe, you realise that markets are saturated, especially with citrus, which is what we offer, and that you have to seek new ones." The head of administration at Sunaran also stressed how important it is for Palma del Río for its oranges to stand out from the rest, and he also admitted how small the "markets remain" if you take into account competition from countries like South Africa, Uruguay, Egypt and Algeria.

Last season (2014-2015), Sunaran exported 50,000 tonnes of oranges, which generated a turnover of between 13 and 14 million Euro.
