The date has been a symbol of hospitality for centuries. Nature & More is now making the date a symbol of peace. In the framework of the campaign “1 Cent for the Future” and the motto “Fancy a peace date?” part of the sales profits are going straight to the Selina Hami’s food aid project, where it helps families in Syria with food packages.
"We want to do something very real for the Syrians who have been suffering from a terrible civil war for years now,” explains Volkert Engelsman, CEO of Nature & More. “After the attacks in Paris we want to deliver a symbol of solidarity, because the economy also has to be perpetuated with the ideals of freedom, equality and kinship. Dates are a good choice because they tie the East and the West together. In the Arabic world the dates are a symbol of hospitality, and food is a universal language that ties all people together.”
Food as a connecting element is also the purpose of 24 year old Selina Hami, a young woman from a Syrian background who now lives in Stockholm. For her ‘Food Box’ project she travelled to Syria in October 2015 to provide 123 families of fresh food with limited resources. With the predicted profits of “Cent for the Future” Selina hopes to be able to support twice as many more families.
Nature & More’s organic dates will be available soon and will be accompanied by a small flyer pointing out the project. Consumers can find more background information with the abbreviation SYR at www.natureandmore.nl.
