"We currently have summer prices", explains Pierre Lembke of the Georgiana Fruit and Vegetable Inc. to Frischezenturm Frankfurt, "The prices for tomatoes currently are abnormally low. Normally we only have these prices during summer. During the winter season you can expect to pay ten Euro more for a crate of Tomatoes."
These low prices will however be short lived, explains the wholesaler. He continues, "in a months time one can expect higher prices."
The specialties of the produce wholesaler are tomatoes, paprika and iceberg lettuce. "The quality of the produce is good," says Lembke, "we are getting our produce from the Netherlands but as the season changes we will have our produce sourced from Spain.
80% of Lembke's products are sold to sub-contractors in the catering business, tells Lembke. "We import our produce through agencies. Right now we have wonderful pomegranates from Turkey and on top of that, sales are going great."
Lembke's produce is grown mainly in Holland and Spain. "We are presently importing a lot of citrus fruits from Spain," he continues, "Right now, the demand is high for clementines, oranges and persimmons. We don't work as much with these fruits during the summer."
