Due to the remaining low rate of the Canadian Dollar and the fact that Canada has reached important trade agreements with China and Korea, the agriculture production of Canada British Columbia (BC) is increasing; especially the blueberry output and export amounts.

Norm Letnick, head of BC's Department of Agriculture, said China is the second largest export market for agricultural products. For five years BC's agricultural products are exported to China. Blueberry growers from BC are also optimistic about next year's prices on the Chinese market. Currently, blueberries have become Canada's largest export fruit variety with the most value.

In June 2015, the Chinese and Canadian government announced that the Chinese market was opened for BC's blueberries. In addition Canada and Korea reached a free trade agreement in 2014, which also promoted blueberry production. BC Blueberry Association executive director Debbie Etsell said that due to the fact that a lot of overseas markets protect their own agricultural production and have high tariffs on imported products, BC's blueberry export industry did not have any advantages. These policies of market access and trade agreements are of great importance for the promotion of BC's blueberries and other agricultural export products.

Rhonda Driediger from the BC Provincial Agriculture Committee said that because China's agriculture has been plagued for a long time by pollution of air, water and soil, the Chinese market responses are good for agricultural products from clean environments. According to reports, Canada has three blueberry varieties, which are: low-bush blueberries, high bush blueberries and half-high bush blueberries. BC has the third largest high bush blueberry production of the world. From July to October it is blueberry production season. This is also the time the blueberries enter the market. The first batch of high-quality fresh blueberries from BC arrived in China in early September.
