Apple prices in China continue to go downhill. At the end of November, average wholesale prices dropped from 7 Yuan (€1,00) per kg to 6 Yuan. Retail prices came down from 8.3 Yuan to 7.6 Yuan per kg. Current retail prices are 26% lower than last years prices.
The price drop is mainly caused by increased production. Total production has gone up by 8% compared to the 2014 season. Current production breaks all known historical records in terms of production volume.
Even though prices on the domestic market are low, apple import into China is still going strong. Export on the other hand is declining. Export between January and May decreased by 31% compared to the same period last year. Apple imports increased a staggering 370%. This indicates that, regardless of the low prices, there is a market for premium apples and import apples.
prices are expected to stay low and could even drop further towards the end of the year.
