The executive of Iran’s Trade Association said the Islamic Republic is prepared to export 60,000 tons of fruits to Russia upon Moscow’s approval.

“We have bought 60,000 tons of apples, kiwis, cucumbers and other produce, as well as about 10 million cans of fruit syrup, which are ready to ship to Russia as soon as we get a go-ahead from our Russian partners,” Sputnik quoted Hedayat Asghari as saying on Tuesday.

He added that the association is also ready to supply fish, eggs and meat to the Russian market to fully satisfy the Russian consumers’ demand for such produce.

Russia plans to replace Turkish foodstuffs with Iranian, Azerbaijani, and Abkhazian goods to avoid food shortages following Moscow's economic sanctions on Ankara.

The move by Kremlin came after Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a bill to impose economic sanctions on Turkey in the wake of the Turkish military’s November 24 shooting down of a Russian fighter jet near the Syrian border.
