Costa Rican entrepreneurs who recently conducted a trade mission to Cuba, coinciding with the official visit of President Luis Guillermo Solis to the island, expressed their satisfaction with the results, as reported by the Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER).

According to PROCOMER, nearly 100 business meetings were carried out during the mission between Costa Rican entrepreneurs and Cuban firms.

Ronald Asenjo, owner of the agricultural company Asbre, managed to hold two meetings with the management team of ITH, one of the largest purchasing groups in the Caribbean island.

"We agreed that ITH would support us with the registration process as suppliers in Cuba, because they are interested in purchasing carrots, cabbage, beets and fresh produce in general from us," affirmed Asenjo.

The President of Costa Rica highlighted this and other cases of successes in the trade mission, believing that the business meetings served to create more opportunities for Costa Rican exporters.

"For Costa Rica, Cuba is an important trading partner in the Caribbean region. It is the fourth largest destination for Costa Rican exports. Trade between our countries has been characterised by dynamism, with an average annual growth over the last decade of more than 7 percent, reaching a value of 39 million dollars," stressed Solis.

The manager of PROCOMER, Pedro Beirute, added that now is a time to track down opportunities. "Both entrepreneurs and PROCOMER officials must still work in finalising the business deals, but we are very satisfied with the results already obtained," he stated.

A total of 21 companies and Costa Rican organizations participated in the trade mission.
