After a customer found a rare green tree frog in their bag of Carmel Crops lettuce, the company took advantage of the incident to highlight why the frog, which is at risk of extinction, would be so discerning as to choose their brand which eschews the use of pesticides.
The woman was quick to send both the lettuce and the stowaway back to the company, without taking any steps to publicize what had happened. The company, however, published a Facebook post about the incident after returning the customer's money.
The company's Facebook post quickly went viral, garnering hundreds of "likes" and shares.
Carmel Crops also provided a biology lesson, noting that the frog in question was a green tree frog, which seeks out leaves and growths that provide shade to keep its skin from drying out. According to the company, the frog is a species under threat and is protected.
"One of the main reasons for the disappearance of these amphibians is environmental pollution and the use of pesticides. Their moist skin is very permeable, and the fact that the frog was in our greenhouse shows [that we have] a sterile growing environment that does not include pesticides. For us, it's added proof that we are on the right path in our vision of creating and promoting a healthy, balanced diet for all residents of Israel," the company announced proudly.
The frog survived its odyssey and was released back into nature.
