The Chilean Government, through the National Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), is negotiating the opening of the Vietnamese market for Chilean products, which were denied access during the first half of 2015.

The Chilean delegation, headed by the director of SAG, Ángel Sartori, travelled to Vietnam to start negotiations to allow the South American country to export fruit products again to this Asian market.

"We came to Vietnam because in late August this year, while we were working to adapt to the changes in Vietnamese standards for fruit trade, especially for kiwifruit, apples, cherries and grapes, Vietnam suspended all export permits following a number of fruit fly outbreaks in Chile," said Sartori.

He also pointed out that they are working with the Vietnamese health authorities, asking them to send a delegation to Chile to make the necessary field studies and confirm the good health conditions.

The SAG national authority also announced that it is working in the process to introduce various livestock products to the Vietnamese market.

According to the SAG, "such processes are underway" and the negotiations are expected to be finalised in the near future. For his part, Sartori said that the visit from the Vietnamese delegation could likely take place in the second week of January 2016.
