A Brisbane-based food wholesaler has issued a food recall after discovering a potentially deadly labelling issue.
Country Fresh Food Products director Ali Kara said his company had purchased plastic containers of what he believed were pine nuts from an importer based in Victoria. He later discovered they were in fact peanuts.
“I know how dangerous this could potentially be so we have quickly contacted stores and attempted to remove all the products we have sold,” Kara said.
“We urge anyone who has a 120g containers of Beta Wholesalers pine nuts to dispose of them or call us on 33860718.”
Mr Kara said he had not been unaware of the issue until he was contacted by a customer who had noticed the nuts smelt like peanuts and not pine nuts.
“As soon as we were told about this we undertook testing to determine exactly what the product was,” he said.
“We are working closely with Queensland Health to limit the impact on our consumers,” Kara stated.
