Core Tip: Hinoman's proprietary hydroponic cultivation process is fully adjustable and suitable for a vast variety of climates.
Israel-based agriculture solution provider Hinoman has developed a complete water management solution for its vegetable protein cultivation system.

The new solution was introduced by the company in response to drastic climate changes and shortage of freshwater in various regions worldwide.

This environmentally friendly cultivation process for plant protein helps to save up to 90% of water when compared to vegetable protein alternatives, such as soy.

Hinoman Business Development vice-president Udi Alroy said: "We designed a precise hydroponic cultivation system that can answer water management challenges in a wide range of geographical locations.

"Hinoman's proprietary hydroponic cultivation process is fully adjustable and suitable for a vast variety of climates.

"It optimises water usage and is especially applicable to semi-desert areas such as in south California, as well as colder climates."

Patented technology used by Hinoman requires an environment that is partially enclosed to help control and optimise the Mankai plant, which is a high-protein strain of duckweed grown in shallow water.

Mankai, when compared to vegetable protein alternatives, such as soy, kale, or spinach, uses ten times less water to grow as a crop.

This process ensures a sustainable and maximum production of protein throughout the year with the minimum use of water.

Hinoman CEO Ron Salpeter said: "Imagine how beneficial it is for growers seeking water management solutions, including fully recyclable water management.

"The race for alternative protein has just begun, and the winners will be the companies that will provide a vegetal, non-GMO, high-protein ingredient, with maximum proximity to urban centres.

"Consumers demand high value, sustainable protein, locally or regionally sourced and with proven traceability.

"Hinoman offers an affordable, comprehensive solution that supports urban cultivation, or cultivation in proximity to food manufacturers."

Alroy said: "Hinoman guarantees the plants will remain pure, clean, uncontaminated and free from pesticides and other non-desired residues.

"The resulting high-protein vegetable exceeds food safety and food security requirements under the very strictest international standards."
