Focus on food processing, post-harvest tech with From Farm to Fork as theme

Core Tip: The 6th Edition of FoodTech Kerala, Kerala’s premiere food processing & packaging exposition, will be held from January 26-28, 2016, at CIAL Exhibition Centre, Nedumbassery, Cochin.
The 6th Edition of FoodTech Kerala, Kerala’s premiere food processing & packaging exposition, will be held from January 26-28, 2016, at CIAL Exhibition Centre, Nedumbassery, Cochin. The three-day exposition will provide a platform for suppliers of processing, packaging & rice milling equipments as well as food and beverages to showcase their products and interact with the trade. Agri-Business Show and Rice & GrainTech Kerala are going to be the co-located events for the show.

The coming edition will focus on food processing and post-harvest technology, with 'from farm to fork' as its theme. The prime significance of the event is to promote and develop food processing sector and related trade disseminating information and providing knowledge to processors, traders, packaging units, retailers and others involved in the food chain.

The event is being endorsed & supported by various trade associations including CFTRI (Mysuru), Kerala Rice Mill Owners Association as well as by department of industries, Government of Kerala. It is organised by Cochin-based Cruz Expos, an organisation that focusses on upgrading the trade fair business in South Asia.

Joseph Kuriacose, director, Cruz Expos, said, “The main challenges faced by the food processing industry in the country today is that appropriate technology is not going to the customers be it in food processing or pharma sector. The Indian market is unique and its specific requirements need to be addressed by the international & local players. Our FoodTech show is bringing the latest technology & equipments that are relevant to the food industry in Kerala.”

Co-located events
Agri-Business Show
The show will discuss the challenges and prospects for the agriculture sector, with special reference to Kerala. A series of seminars are also being planned along with the exhibition.

The primary objective of the event is to promote the food processing, agriculture and allied sectors of the states. The event will also promote and develop these sectors and related trade by disseminating information and knowledge to farmers, small farmer groups, processors, traders, NGOs, development organisations and other interested parties. It will focus on developing farm entrepreneurship, farm mechanisation, organic farming, food processing and post-harvest technology. It will help Keralites in viewing the farm as an enterprise and farmer an entrepreneur.

The event will showcase the technology developments in the sector and will bring together technology and suppliers, entrepreneurs and support services on a single platform. The latest technology and equipment for agri farming will be on display. Leading agro-companies will be participating in the event, which is being organised with the support of Kerala Agriculture University (KAU), Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University and other related agencies. The event is also supported by the state’s food processing mission and KINFRA.

The organisers are aiming to establish the event as the leading platform for trade in the agri sector, held on annual basis, in Kerala. Strategic target marketing would look at every major sector of agro-food processing in the state. With the support of respective agencies, visitor promotions will be carried out to all major farmer groups & agro-food processors in the state.

The presence of farmers, food processors, wholesalers & agents, and plantation owners will give a new dimension to the entire sector bringing the global spice chest and national food factory on a single platform. The exposition will open up a two-way channel for the exhibitors and trade buyers and the organisers aim to establish Agri-Business Kerala as the leading platform for trade in the related sectors held annually.

Rice & GrainTech Kerala
The second edition of the event is being held with a vision to make it the most preferred exhibition on rice & grain sector in south India. The three-day exposition will provide a leading platform for suppliers of processing, packaging & rice milling equipments. The event will showcase the technology development in the sectors and will bring together technology and suppliers, entrepreneurs and support services on a single platform. The latest technology and equipment for the processing of rice products will be on display.

The exhibition is supported and endorsed by various associations adding the strength and value to the event. The associations supporting the event include All Kerala Rice Mill Association, Kalady Rice Millers, Kalady Rice Millers Consortium (KRMC), and KAU.

Rice & GrainTech will be of great help for the healthy and sustainable development of the whole chain of rice industry, promoting rice brands, improving mechanisation level, showing brands, expanding sales channels & exchange of technology, and driving Kerala’s rice industry to a sustainable development stage.

During the B2B exhibition, companies will showcase new technology and products for rice cultivation, harvesting, processing and selling. It will offer a unique opportunity to penetrate the expanding market in Kerala.

Kuriacose said, “We will have around 85 exhibitors with about five from overseas through their local representatives. We have a Kerala pavilion that is sponsored by department of industries, Government of Kerala and will feature SSI units from the food & beverages, processing and packaging sector in Kerala."

Seminars
Technical sessions will focus on the problems faced by rice millers in Kerala specific to waste treatment & usage of the starch-rich water effluent discharge from this sector. The session is coordinated by CFTRI, Mysuru, along with KAU regarding the agro industry in Kerala.

The average Keralite is a high spender on food and processed food products and the event will showcase the technology developments in these sectors and will bring together technology and suppliers, entrepreneurs and support services on a single platform. The latest technology and equipment for the processing of a wide range of food products will be on display.
