Recently, imported fruits such as apples from the USA, mangosteen from Thailand, and cherries from Chile have become the new favourites in the fruit market. In some supermarkets, one can also find avocados from Mexico and kiwi fruits from New Zealand.
As the general standard of living improves, imported fruits are increasingly popular. Supermarkets offer a large variety of choices in order to meet the market demand. Now there are over a dozen choices, already more than last year's offering. Prices have also become much more democratic. In January 2016, sales of imported fruits have increased dramatically.
The main driver of the increase in sales is the novelty for the consumers. Furthermore, imported fruits are very appealing as gifts, with attractive colours and uniform shapes.
