Supply of Brazilian mangoes is currently limited, both in Brazil and in the Netherlands and Carlos Andre Faria from the European sales office of Sun City in Bleiswijk, NL, does not expect the situation to change before late March. "Now the volumes are at around 25-35 containers every week, from late March-April this will increase to 60-70 containers."
Brazil supplies Tommy Atkins for seafreight and Palmer for airfrieght. "The supply of Brazilian Keitt mangoes is limited with weekly arrivals of about 10 containers for the coming weeks. In April there will be more Keitt mangoes on the market, but certainly not before," says Andre. "The sizes are mainly small to medium. The large sizes are not widely available for any kind of promotion."
"Brazil has had heavy rainfall from late December until now. I expected more quality problems, but many growers were prepared for these storms. I expect larger volumes of air freight mangoes in the next few weeks to fill in the gaps in the supply," says Andre. He expects prices of 6 to 8 Euro in the next few weeks for the conventional fruits and at least 12 Euro for the Ready to Eat-mango."
