Figures from the research company Nielsen show that the sale of vegetables and potatoes in Norway increased by 8.1 percent in value last year, while fruits have grown by 10.2 percent. Overall, fruit and vegetable sales increased by 1.5 billion krone* last year.
"In 2015, banana sales increased by as much as 173 million krone. Tomatoes, strawberries and avocados were also strong growth drivers, with a turnover increase of over 100 million krone compared to 2014," says marketing manager Tina Torgersen.
Total sales of fruit and vegetables reached a value of 19 billion krone.
Over the past ten years, the consumption of fruit and vegetables has increased by 20 percent; however, most consumers are still a good distance away from the recommended "five a day."
"We're still not quite there," stated Health Minister Bent Høie to DN.
