The Import Promotion Desk (IPD), the German platform for the promotion of import, expands its cooperation with Egypt. A representative of the IPD and a representative of the Egyptian Agricultural Export Council (AEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the Fruit Logistica. Until 2018 the IPD will support Egyptian farmers to reach export standards. “With this agreement, we want to promote a sustainable and structured import from Egypt and strengthen the Egyptian local economy. Because from successful import both importers and exporters profit," states the IPD director Dr. Julia Hoffmann.
The IPD presented two Egyptian exhibitors at the Fruit Logistica. For the first time the Egyptian Grower’s Organization (EGO) was present at the Fruit Logistica. It is a cooperation of 5 agricultural companies that farm in different climate zones in Egypt. This way EGO can supply fresh produce such as mangos, pomegranates and grapes for a longer period. At the fair there were many positive business conversations and it looks like a contract for mangos will be signed in the near future.
The first Ethiopian stand
The IPD presented a world first with the Ethiopian country stand at the fruit and vegetables fair. German companies were especially interested in beans, chillies, strawberries, grapes and sugar snaps of four Ethiopian exporters. The Meki-Batu Union had the first successful talks. The Union represents 20,000 members in Ethiopia and was invited to the fair by the IPD.
