Vegetable prices have already started to see decreases. Around Chinese New Year, prices were rather high. Now whole sale prices have already come down somewhat, but retail prices remain high.
Certain regions in the north, prices have even risen after Chinese New Year. According to a study carried out by the Ministry of Commerce on 30 kinds of vegetables in 36 cities, the average whole sale price has reached renminbi 6.12 per kilogram, representing a 12.3% rise compared to the end of last month.
Average retail price per kilogram reached renminbi 9.72, an 18.7% increase compared to the end of last month. There are two drivers behind the increase in price, one is the unfavourable weather, two is the effect of the Chinese New Year.
