Alfredo Gryciuk, the head of the National Plant Health and Seed Quality Service (Senave) said that the new requirements and procedures for the registration of importers of plants and products of plant origin would apply starting next April.

"Importers of plants and plant byproducts will have new categorizations. The record will last five years and having a technical advisor, as well as a warehouse for some categories will be mandatory," said Gryciuk.

Among the administrative requirements, he said, the interested parties must submit their biyearly business license, copies of their ids, their Taxpayer Registration (RUC), as well as a tax compliance certificate, and affidavit of their income tax, and the registry of the signatures of the representative and technical adviser, in some cases.

As for the warehouses, he stressed, they must comply with specific regulations, depending on their use (to store seeds, grains in general, fruits and vegetables, etc.).

In other news, he said, the Senave destroyed 5,620 citrus seedlings in Itapúa that had not been certified free of Huanglongbing (HLB) disease.
