Conditions in the grape market have been good for a few weeks. "Due to both disappointing productions and a good demand from Asia, the supply to Europe has been considerably lower, resulting in a significant price level," explains Lucien de Wit, of Sous Fresh. "In previous years, there were still grapes in storage sometimes, but now they are arriving to an almost empty market. And since prices have been good, but not extremely high, the fruit has also been well absorbed by the market."

"India has had a good harvest and there are plenty of Indian grapes being shipped. They are already to be found left and right on the market, but we'll be receiving the first shipment this weekend. Also, prices for Indian grapes are at a good level. There's simply a shortage of grapes worldwide, especially for white seedless varieties. In terms of quality, we hear good news from India. Prices for the white grapes from India range between 10.50 and 11 Euro, with some slightly cheaper or more expensive prices here and there."

"Many late varieties in South Africa have already been harvested, so there is not as much Red Globe coming from the Hex River. That is why a lot of Crimson grapes have been planted," explains Lucien. "All in all, there will not be too many grapes on the market in the short term. The price of good quality grapes will remain good for the time being; fortunately, the prices currently paid are reasonable, since extremely high prices are also not ideal. If you ask for more, say 2 Euro, it will be harder to keep your sales stable," concludes Lucien.
