The Ministry of Primary Industries has provided this statement of clarification below, after an error confused the industry over gold kiwi exports to China.

"There has been some concern over recent reports regarding gold kiwifruit exports to China. We would like to provide clarification. China has not banned imports of gold or green kiwifruit."

MPI will continue to issue phytosanitary certificates for export to the Peoples Republic of China for the following species of kiwifruit:
  • Actinidia chinensis: gold kiwifruit
  • Actinidia deliciosa x chinensis: green/gold cross kiwifruit
  • Actinidia deliciosa: green kiwifruit
MPI has amended the China Importing Countries Phytosanitary Requirements document to reflect that gold kiwifruit varieties are approved for entry to China (and have long been approved for entry).

Note that China has placed a temporary suspension on the import of kiwiberries (Actinidia arguta) only, and MPI is working with Chinese authorities on resuming trade in kiwi berries as quickly as possible.
