The 2016 Dutch pepper season started a few weeks ago and has been developing slowly, but steadily. Harvest House has over 400 hectares devoted to the cultivation of bell peppers and a few more with pointy peppers in three sizes. "Over the next two weeks, the bell pepper harvest will still be relatively small, but then growers will start harvesting the second batch. The pointy varieties will hit the market on week 15/16," explains Marco Bergman.
"In terms of quality, the Dutch production is looking good. Competition with Spanish peppers is expected to continue for about two weeks; after that, no room will be left in the market for the Spanish products. Right now, some English, German, Dutch and Scandinavian retailers have actually already started switching to Dutch peppers. Both the price and demand for Dutch peppers are at a similar level as last year," concludes Marco.
