The spring has started and Easter is around the corner. It is worth noting that the demand for new seasonal products is growing. "The weather is starting to improve a bit," affirms Robert van Ooijen, of Van Ooijen Fruit and Vegetable imports, a company which mainly imports products from Belgium.
Higher prices
The prices of various seasonal products are growing as a result of increasing demand. "For peppers, this has been the case for a while and we certainly expect an increase in demand before Easter. Prices are good, especially for the red. The yellow and green are cheaper. Aubergines are slightly more expensive than last week, which is also the case for truss tomatoes, with prices of around 1.25 to 1.45 Euro.
Strawberries and asparagus
Easter has arrived early this year; "as a result of this, asparagus have reached considerable prices since the start of the season. Today they stood at 15 to 16 Euro per kilo and they are bound to become even more expensive. Of course, it is a traditional product that is eaten frequently at Easter. The price of strawberries is also good, reaching around 3.50 for a pound and that's not bad for this time of the year."
Freshly delivered daily
Robert has good prospects for the season. "Our great strength is that we are small and flexible. Furthermore, we double check every product before delivery and we make sure everything goes smoothly. All our products are delivered fresh on a daily basis and we keep nothing in stock. Our work is still very fun to do. A minor point is that payments are sometimes a bit more difficult to get than before. Still, purchasing and trading poses new challenges every day."
