After the Chinese Spring Festival, vegetable prices did not decrease as usual. On the contrary, the price of vegetables in general doubled compared to the same period last year.
The reason for the price increase is the cold weather experienced earlier in the Winter. Impacted by bad weather conditions, the majority of vegetable growing regions such as Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan and Sichuan Province had lower production output.
In the Northern regions, most of the vegetables are grown in greenhouses. In the South, vegetable crops are more often planted in the field. Therefore, when cold hits the country, vegetables grown in the southern region are more severely impacted. This time, a large part of the crop has been frozen.
