This month, 21 agriculture produce market committees (APMC) or market yards will be going online. According to government officials the digital platform will help farmers better market their produce across the state, rather than just in one place. Three APMCs will go online on April 14, when prime minister Narendra Modi launches the move across the nation under the Rashtriya Krushi Bazar. The others will go online by the end of this month.

For a year, as a pilot project, the Union government will subsidize the project and bear costs. The Centre has decided to give Rs3 million as a subsidy to APMCs going online, said the officials.

"If the price of potato was over Rs10 per kg in Porbandar and Rs3 in Unjha, the farmers can sell their produce online through this digital platform," said Babu Bokhiriya, state agriculture minister. Buyers and sellers will need to register in market yards to get the benefit of this programme. So far 50 have registered for e-market in Himmatnagar market yard.
