The Story® Inoredcov variety, achieved by Inra and Novadi, has been tested since 2004. This dark red, two-tone variety’s major advantage is it’s conservation potential, but is not recommended for the North of France where the low temperatures before harvest could lead to interior browning.
Vincent Mathieu-Hurtiger from the Saint-Remy-de-Provence Ctifl explains that “Harvesed at the end of September-start of October, it can be kept in the normal cold until May, without any notable decrease in firmness or quality of taste”. However, it is sensitive to scalding, and even browning inside when in a controlled atmosphere. It is therefore advised not to store the variety below 0.5°C or in a controlled atmosphere. “For optimum conservation, it is advised to harvest the fruit at a stage when maturity is indicated at 5-6 out of 10 on a starch regression rate measure. It is recommended to store the fruit in normal coldness, at a temperature close to 3°C, in order to avoid scalding and interior browning” explains Ctifl’s engineer.
