In the Budapest Wholesale Market, a kilo of potatoes grown by domestic producers cost between 100 and 180 HUF* on week 13, which is significantly higher than the average price recorded a year ago. During the same week, Italian cauliflower was also sold for more than twice the price of the same week a year earlier, reaching 700 HUF/kg.

On the opposite side of the scale, the wholesale price of Spanish cucumbers was 10 percent lower (HUF 466/kg) than a year ago, while domestic cucumbers were 15 percent lower (HUF 484/kg) between weeks 11 and 13 of 2016 than in the same period last year.

It is worth noting that, in Hungary, the cucumber production has been on a steady decline since 1990, when it stood at around 100 thousand tonnes, compared to just 29.6 thousand tonnes grown in 2014.
