The downturn trend can finally be seen regarding vegetable prices. The price gap with that of the same period in previous years starts to narrow within this week.

As of March some vegetable prices soared, among which the price of Chinese cabbage, potatoes, melon, garlic and green onions are even higher than those of spring festival seasons, breaking the price record in the past one or even five years. The good news is that the trend of rising vegetable prices has been curbed and started going down as of the beginning of April

Every year in April, Beijing Vegetable supply chain will have two transitions: the vegetable origins will switch from the south to the north, and the vegetable cultivation will be more in the open air than in the greenhouse. The acceleration of this conversion process began to show up in vegetable prices. Recently as vegetables from the northern region start to come to the market, they are becoming less dependent on the vegetable productions of the southern region. In terms of vegetable price changes, the prices of non main stream vegetables has started to go down significantly, which will drive the overall vegetable prices into the downstream channel.
