In the March quarter inflation was down 0.2 per cent in Hobart and the cheaper price of fruit, as well as fuel, contributed to this. The Australia Bureau of statistics found that the cost of fruit dropped 12.2 per cent, while fuel was down by 8.8 per cent.
Hobart inflation is the best available measure for Tasmania.
Annual Hobart inflation is now running at 1.3 per cent, the same as the national figure.
Inflation fell in six of the nation’s eight capitals in the quarter, and national inflation was down by 0.2 per cent.
