Nomad Gida Tarim grows almost 500 acres of asparagus in Eskisehir’s Saricakaya district. The company have now made their first exports to Holland.

Murat Senbuz, a company official from Nomad Gida Tarim, provided some information on the first exports. Senbuz explains that the decision to plant asparagus in Saricakaya came on the back of studies performed in the district in 2010 to ascertain the viability of asparagus cultivation there, ‘’We are very excited to realise our first asparagus exports from Saricakaya, which has a favourable climate and soil characteristics suitable for cultivating the crop.’’

Nomad Tarim were supported by Eskisehir deputy Prof. Dr. Emine Nur Gunay and Saricakaya’s Mayor Faruk Guler in their first exports.

The company follows GAP standards and will continue to ship to the domestic market and Europe in particular through the season.

The district is famous for its varied fruit and vegetable cultivation and the exporting of asparagus is a very pleasing development for the municipality there. Mayor Guler explains that the sending of a truck load of asparagus to Holland demonstrates recognition of the district’s Good Agricultural Practices and is very important for providing foreign exchange earnings.
