The first Moldovan strawberries can already be purchased at the market. Stalls are also increasingly filled with domestic vegetables, whose prices, according to traders, are at a similar level to last year.
The first local strawberries in the wholesale markets in the capital are being sold for about 80 lei per kilogram (3.57 Euro). Even if they are expensive, consumers believe that their aroma and taste make it worth the price.
This week has also marked the arrival of the first local early cabbage, although potatoes, for now, are only imported.
In the wholesale markets, cucumbers and tomatoes are being sold for around 35 Moldovan lei per kilogram (1.56 Euro). Radish costs about 10 lei per kilogram (0.45 Euro), and cabbage prices stand at 9 lei per kilo (0.40 Euro).
