The Councillor for Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development of the Government of Valencia, Elena Cebrián, has announced that the target is to increase the acreage devoted to organic production by 20% by 2020.
Planning process
"The objective is to double the area devoted to organic production and reach 140,000 hectares, doubling also the current turnover to about 400-500 million Euro." The funding for the Plan for Organic Production is still unclear, she added, because "we are still involved in the planning process," so when this is complete and concrete measures are on paper, "we will quantify the financial needs of the 2016-2020 Plan," she pointed out.
Lastly, she listed the main lines of work proposed, including the promotion of a conscious, responsible and ecological consumption and the provision of knowledge regarding the regulations and the Organic Agriculture brand. A boost will also be given to organic production and to the processing and marketing of organic foods. The plan aims to promote knowledge and innovation in the organic sector and improve the certification process for the organic production.
