Lallemand, the Canadian yeast and bacteria maker, has made two acquisitions as it looks to bolster its business in dairy and meat as well as enhance its business in Latin America.
Lallemand has purchased Uruguay-based Lage y Cia, which develops inoculants, legume seed treatments and other biological crop management products.
Lage y Cia will be folded into Lallemand's Plant Care business, which is focused on the use of yeasts, bacteria and fungi as biocontrol, biostimulant and biofertilizer agents in agriculture, horticulture and forestry.
Carlos Lage Zerboni, founder of Lage y Cía, said: “We are very excited with the opportunities associated with becoming a part of Lallemand Plant Care after having been close collaborators for the past 3 years”.
According to Lallemand, the acquisition will help bolster Lallemand's presence in Latin America, increase its production capacity and bolster its R&D activities. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
Separately, Lallemand has also acquired the Surface and Ripening Cultures business from DSM Food Specialities, which will be incorporated into Lallemand’s Specialty Cultures business unit.
Lallemand Specialty Cultures develops and makes specialty cultures for food applications.
The acquisition includes surface and ripening strains of molds, yeast and bacteria for soft cheese and dry fermented meat applications, as well as related industrial and business assets including over 100 existing commercial products.
