In March 2016 the Dutch company Air In Motion implemented a solution to keep out heat and moisture from the cold store of distribution centre SPAR Group South Africa.

SPAR Group South Africa, with its 800 outlets divided over the African continent, is known for the high transit speed of its products. That requires many logistic movements in the busy distribution centre. The climate of this distribution centre, which is located in the eastern African coastal town Durban, often causes temperatures to rise to over 30°C for a large part of the year. Additionally, extremely high atmospheric humidity is more often than not a rule rather than an exception. The climate of Durban makes it impossible to keep out moisture. High energy costs for the cold store and slipperiness due to snow and ice forming are inevitable because of this.

All this changed when SPAR Group South Africa implemented the solution of the Dutch company Air In Motion (Venray) in March 2016: a solution to keep out heat and moisture from the cold store of the distribution centre in subtropical Durban.

The distribution centre has two busy logistical passages to the cold store, passages that are open at least 18 hours for transport daily. Closing the passage using alternative solutions, such as speed doors and strip curtains, is practically impossible due to so much transport. The so-called AFIM IGLO solution form Air In Motion has ensured that doors remain open all day while maintaining proper temperatures. A clear passage for transport is created, and slippery floors are a thing of the past. Snow, fog and ice problems in the cold store are also gone forever.

In 2011 Air In Motion already developed a solution for the passage to the cold store of the Dutch distribution centre of SPAR. In 2015 the supplier of air technical products from Venray was asked again, and this time to solve the problem in Durban. Also thanks to the cooperation with local partner CFW Industries and the application of several innovations in the field of air doors, Air In Motion succeeded in realising a continuously opened transportation passage in the SPAR distribution centre of South Africa.

The solutions of Air In Motion will continue expanding on the African continent in the near future.
