Ecuadorian banana exporter Tropical Fruit has received the 'Carbono Neutral' certification from the Consultora Ambiental SAMBITO, after a one year process.

The measurement of the Huella de Carbono was made with the objective of finding out the impact of this business on the environment. The sustainability of the logistics chain was evaluated, involving three companies that provide the trucks to transport the fruits from the packinghouse to the port.

The main measure to compensate the CO2 is the conservation of 1,001 hectares of the protected forest Tinajillas – Río Gualaceño, in the province Morona Santiago. Currently running is a deeper evaluation process to find out the flora and fauna that are being protected through the conservation of that area.

Other actions taken include a request to renew the fleet of transportation companies to generate a reduction of oil and fuel. Paper consumption and electric power is also being reduced, among other measures.
