BiM, Belgian Industrial Machines, recently delivered its first flow pack machine with box-motion application to a player in the fresh produce sector. “We are particularly active in the world of bakeries, and other food-related companies. This was our first project in the fresh produce sector. What I think is the most interesting thing about this sector, is that everything needs to be realised quickly so that products can be supplied as fresh as possible. Moreover, the customer was very satisfied that we delivered a machine that is simple, quick and reliable. And that it naturally reaches the wanted volumes. It is a new concept regarding flow pack machines,” says business manager Sven Geukens.

Not complex
Geukens indicates that he noticed that the fresh produce sector is looking for a technically advanced, yet easily operated machine without too much complexity. “They want to focus on their core business, and not spend too much time on machines. Our flow pack machines do not constantly need to be set up and adjusted. Everything can easily be controlled via a screen.”

Electronic
The box-motion flow packer is extremely suitable for packaging under atmosphere of, for example, perishables. “Our machine provides the advantage that it is virtually electronic and therefore needs very few operations. In case of mechanical flow packers, it is difficult to set the right time for sealing. This is much easier to realise electronically, because this is constantly being checked, it has an electronic time monitor. Therefore the entire process is more flexible and quicker. This flow packer is ergonomic and easy to maintain. Additionally, we talk to the customer about what they want, and the flow pack machine is therefore always tailor-made. For example, one customer asked for an extra mobile supply chain ‘easy clean.’ BiM can offer a custom solution for every question concerning flow pack machines and supply.”

Well-prepared
Geukens indicates that BiM advises customers to have company operators receive training about the background and operation of the flow pack machines. “We instruct for half a day, and discuss specifics. This makes everything run even smoother, and it becomes only a matter of operation. Companies can then start using the machine well-prepared and in good confidence.”
