"We will have to wait a while before seeing more volumes of Italian citrus fruit. As regards lemons, the Argentinian season is over and we have started selling those from Spain," explains Andrea Saturnini, Sa.Ga. Frutta owner and trader on the Verona wholesale market. Prices start at 80 cent/€1 per kg to €1.50/kg for the extra category.

Early varieties of clementines (Clemenrubi and Oronules) also come from Spain. "Bigger grades sell at €1.50/kg, while smaller ones only reach €1/kg. Luckily, though, the recent change in temperatures meant that demand increased."

"Oranges come from South Africa and prices are rather high - last month, 15 kg packets sold at €13/14 while now they have reached €15/16. Just like for clementines, demand has been more lively for oranges too."
