A new study out of the University of Florida shows that a diet including daily shiitake mushrooms strengthens the immune system. Among the thousands of mushroom species grown around the world only about 20 end up on our plates. Shiitake being one of these is not only used for culinary purposes but also for its medicinal values.
In one study by UF Food Science And Human Nutrition of 52 healthy adults from age 21 to 41 it was shown that daily intake increased immunity and lead to healthier individuals. According to one of the researchers, "If you eat a shiitake mushroom every day, you could see changes in their immune system that are beneficial.”
Already known for their health if this studies results are further proven it could increase the sells of such mushrooms in the health food industry.
