This year, Shenzhen Huanggang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Futian Branch has seized a large number of Japanese aquatic products, which hasn’t been inspected and quarantined by customs. A total of 151 batches and 2.33 tons, which increased by 35.5% year on year, of aquatic products were found with problem.

From November 1 to November20, 28 batches and 173.7 kg of aquatic products without quarantine certificate were intercepted, up by 18.54% and 7.4% respectively. As passengers carrying these products are unable to provide any inspection and quarantine certificates, the staff from the Bureau send the illegally-carried aquatic products to relevant offices to disposing according to law.

There are dozens of aquatic products, such as sea urchins, Greek caviar, crab sticks, and fish sausages. And origins of these aquatic products are also different, including Tokyo, Nagasaki, Miyazaki, Okayama and so on. Since the nuclear leak in Japan in 2011, seafood produced near Japan’s Fukushima is all affected by the pollution of nuclear radiation and almost all countries placed ban of import of seafood produced in the region. As a result, prices of high-value seafood near Fukushima dropped sharply.

General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China also issued notice explicitly prohibiting import of seafood from Japanese Fukushima Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture and other 12 counties. Next step, Huanggang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau would deploy additional staff to increase the inspection work to ensure the safety of the country.
