Under the Comprehensive and Progress Agreement of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Japan has pledged to eliminate import tariffs on 86% of Vietnamese goods (93.6% of Vietnamese exports) and 95.6% of Vietnamese goods in the 11th year.
In addition, Japan has also promised to abolish 78% of Vietnam's import tariffs on agricultural products (excluding rice products) after the entry into force of the agreement, and to adopt tariff restriction policies or reduce some import tariffs on Vietnamese imports of buffalo, cattle, pork, milk, various dairy products, wheat, rice and their products.
It is noteworthy that Vietnam yellow fin tuna, Oriental fox, swordfish, cod, surimi, shrimp, crab and other dominant aquatic products will have the opportunity to enjoy zero tariff preferences.
For all aquatic products that have not previously enjoyed zero import tariffs under the Vietnam-Japan Free Trade Agreement, the preferential treatment will be obtained in the sixth, eleventh or sixteenth year after the entry into force of the Agreement. In addition, fruit and vegetable products also enjoy zero-tariff preferences for imports in the third or fifth year after the entry into force of the agreement.
