Yoke’s Fresh Market is recalling two types of Colby cheese for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The products were manufactured by Guggisberg Cheese and by Deutsch Kase Haus of Indiana. The cheeses were sold in Yoke’s Fresh Market stores in Washington and Idaho under the grocery brand’s private label. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.
The recalled products are Colby Jk Longhorn Cheese – Yoke’s Fresh Market 16 ounce, and Colby Longhorn Cheese – Yoke’s Fresh Market 16 ounce. They were sold between 09/01/16 and 01/27/17.
If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a secure garbage can or take them back to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill Listeria bacteria. That bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it. Wash your hands after you handle the product.
If you ate these cheeses, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include stiff neck, high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness if they contract this infection, but Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning can cause premature labor, stillbirth, and miscarriage. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
