Core Tip: Wellpet is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of one canned topper dog food product because it may have elevated levels of naturally occurring beef thyroid hormone.
Wellpet is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of one canned topper dog food product because it may have elevated levels of naturally occurring beef thyroid hormone. WellPet has received no reports of any problems, but the FDA told WellPet three dogs have been affected.

The recalled products are Wellness 95% Beef Topper for Dogs in 13.2 ounce cans, with best by dates of 02 FEB 19, 29 AUG 19 and 30 AUG 19, located on the bottom of the can.

Elevated levels of this hormone may affect a dog’s metabolism and can be associated with anxiousness, increased thirst, increased urinary output and weight loss. But with prolonged consumption, these symptoms may increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing. Symptoms should end when your pet is no longer eating this product, but if your pet has consumed this product and has exhibited any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. The recipe is a mixer or topper and is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.

If you purchased this product, do not feed it to your pet. It was distributed at pet specialty retailers throughout North American and online. Throw it away in a secure garbage can or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
