A plant for the processing of organic fruits and vegetables will be built in the Bulgarian village of Dagonovo, in the municipality of Belica. The project is being developed by the young Sofia-based Company "Bio Organic Bulgaria", which will be making an investment of 2.8 million Euro. The plant will be devoted to the production of frozen and dried products and the raw materials will be supplied by producers in the region.

According to the owner of the company, Stanislav Stoichkov, although many other companies are working in the organic sector, the market is huge.

The construction of the plant has already started and it is planned to be completed by the end of September or early October. The company will be primarily processing fruits and vegetables, as well as freezing and drying them. The expected daily production of frozen products is 5 tonnes.

The new plant will have an area of 2,270 square metres and will also feature a small office and a training centre. "My old idea was to promote training for a healthy lifestyle and diet. People should eat more fruits and vegetables," said Stoichkov, who is an active athlete and coach.

"Bio Organic Bulgaria" has chosen Dagonovo because of its location. "It is located between three mountains on the main road towards the city and 100 km from the villages of Plodovitovo and Sandanski, which are regions with dynamically developing agriculture," said Stoichkov. These are the main regions from which the company plans to obtain its raw materials. As a fallback, the firm could also import fruit and vegetables from Greece and also purchase the production from local growers, as long as it meets certain requirements.
