BILLA Bulgaria has reported excellent financial results for 2016. The turnover of the retail chain increased by 15.05%, with gross sales revenue amounting to over 785 million Lev (about 402.05 million Euro). BILLA also opened 12 new stores last year, so the retail chain now has 110 stores in 37 cities. Over the past year, the company has opened more stores than its three major competitors combined. Thus BILLA contributed significantly to the development of the economy, generating 375 jobs, bringing its total staff to 4,423 people.
2016 was a successful year for REWE International AG (part of the German REWE Group), which runs the REWE Group supermarket business in 6 countries in Central and Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Croatia, Russia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine) and in Wiener Neudorf, in Austria. The turnover in these markets grew by 7.18%. BILLA Bulgaria achieved the highest growth of all countries (15.05%). Second was BILLA Russia, with 7.67% turnover growth.
"2016 has been great for BILLA and, above all, for its customers. The strong financial performance is the result of the efforts of our entire team to constantly improve and offer quality products and an impeccable service. High growth is of paramount importance, but our biggest achievement is gaining the trust of consumers and the fact that every week over 1 million Bulgarians shop in our stores," stated BILLA Bulgaria Manager Boyko Sakanski.
In 2016, BILLA confirmed its position as a valuable partner for Bulgarian producers. The company continued to develop its fruitful partnership with more than 30 producers. Thanks to this, BILLA's customers have access to a wide range of delicious and quality fruits and vegetables grown in 150 farms in the most fertile parts of Bulgaria.
