MIA continues to handle the majority of America´s perishable imports by air, including 89.2% of all flower air imports; 66.7% of all fruit and vegetable air imports. In Florida, MIA's 2016 air trade amounted to 92% of the state's total air trade value and 40% of its combined (air & sea) trade value.
The total value of international freight originating from and destined to Miami International Airport (MIA) in 2016 also jumped 8% to USD 57.3bn in 2016, according to recently released data by the US Department of Commerce, the airport reported.
Pharmaceutical (pharma) freight was largely responsible for the spike in freight, but the airport remains of vital importance for perishable imports.
