The CFIA and Longo Brothers Fruit Markets are recalling Ontario Lean Ground Veal for possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. It was sold from the Longo Brothers Fruit Market at 5636 Glen Erin Drive in Mississauga, Ontario. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The recalled product is Longo’s brand Ontario Lean Ground Veal in various sizes. The code on the product is Best Before 17 AL 19 and the UPC number starts with 203436.

Food that is contaminated with E. coli bacteria will not look, smell, or taste spoiled, but it can make you sick, especially if the meat is not cooked to 165°F. Symptoms of an E. coli infection include abdominal cramps, watery and bloody diarrhea, and a mild fever.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are going to cook it. Throw it away in a secure garbage can or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.
