Hampton Farms is expanding its voluntary recall of products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination to include Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews and Almonds, distributed only in New Jersey. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Ingredients sold to the company may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria. Test results of the ingredients at Hampton Farms were negative, but the items are being recalled out of an abundance of caution.
The recalled products, about 650 units, include Ava’s 8 ounce Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews, with UPC number 8-10111-01036-8 and Lot# 11817 Exp 4/28/18; Lot# 12617 Exp 5/1/18; and Lot# 15917 Exp 6/5/18. Also recalled is Ava’s 8 ounce Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds with UPC number 8-10111-01032-0 and Lot# 10217 Exp 4/10/18.
If you purchased these products, don’t consume them. Discard them in a sealed or double wrapped package so other people and animals can’t eat them, or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your pantry with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria.
If you ate these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this pathogenic bacteria, for 70 days. Symptoms include stiff neck, high fever, serious headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirth if they contract this illness, even though they may only feel mildly sick. If you do feel ill, contact your doctor.
