House of Thaller is voluntarily recalling some of their Hummus with Pine Nut Topping because an ingredient supplier has recalled some of their product for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported in relation to this recalled product.
The recalled products include Fresh Foods Market Artisan Hummus – Pine Nuts with UPC number 72036027054 and various expiration dates and lot codes. Also recalled is Lantana White Bean Hummus with Pine Nut & Herb Topping, with UPC number 896863001434 and certain expiration dates and lot codes. Finally, Marketside Classic Hummus with Pine Nuts is recalled, with UPC number 681131138475 and various lot codes and expiration dates. You can see the long list of lot codes and expiration dates for these products, along with pictures of product labels, at the FDA web site.
The hummus is packed in 10 ounce, clear, round plastic cups with a clear or colored plastic lid. No other brands or flavors of hummus are affected by this recall.
If you bought these products, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed package or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a solution of 1 Tbsp. liquid chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of warm or hot water, since Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Freezing doesn’t kill this bacteria.
If you ate these products, watch yourself for listeriosis symptoms for 70 days. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be concerned about this illness, since listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth, but the woman may only have an illness similar to the flu. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
